Speaking Life

“You are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost its savor, with what shall it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out, and trodden under foot of men.” – Matthew 5:13

No one can live without salt. To be the salt of the earth we must be “truth-bearers,” speaking Scripture into our conversations graciously… “let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, so that you know how you ought to answer every person” – (Colossians 4:6). A conversation without Scripture is like food without salt: bland and without impact. Just another human opinion.

There are thousands of opinions on social media. Everyone has something to say and tries to sound authorative. But only one Book on this planet was “God-breathed” and produces Life. Jesus said, “It is the Spirit that makes alive; the flesh profits nothing. The words I speak to you, they are Spirit, and they are life.”

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it” is the Lord’s decree. We’re witnessing the carnage of lies and deception all around… physical death, death of jobs, murder of reputations, destruction of families, friends, and marriages. Our world needs Salt to restrain the decay.

It’s powerful to sprinkle a generous amount of “It is written” or “God’s Word says” into our conversations. A few savory verses can preserve a soul from death; bring healing to a wounded heart; turn bitter circumstances sweet; cast flavor into bland discussions; give spiritual electrolytes to the weary; raise the temperature to “zeal” in one growing cold; and best of all, produce thirst for Him who is the Fountain of Living Water.

God has placed you where you’re needed. Speak life.
