Jesus told a parable about a Gardener who planted wheat in His field. When the tares (Darnell) began to appear among the wheat, the servants of the Gardener said, “Sir, did You not sow good seed in Your field? How did these tares get in here?”
He answered, “An enemy has done this.” The servants said, “Do You want us to go and gather them up?” He said, “No, lest while you gather the tares, you root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the Harvest: and in the time of Harvest I will say to the reapers, ‘Gather first the tares, bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into My barn’” (Matthew 13:24-30).
We are seeing this parable before our eyes. Those who love evil have appeared in every aspect of our social life – government, education, health, sports, music, entertainment, even in churches and Bible schools. They are no longer hiding in plain sight, they are public, open, arrogant, and unashamed in their agenda.
But there is good news in all this and great reason for encouragement. First, Jesus said, “Let both grow together.” Evil is growing, but so is God’s wheat. And it seems quite evident there is more wheat than tares.
Secondly, the harvest is near. When wheat reaches maturity the seed heads become very firm, and bow. There is now an evident division between those who publicly and firmly honor Jesus Christ as Lord, and those who do not.
Thirdly, outside help is coming. If God opened our eyes this minute, we would see the reapers waiting, in chariots of fire, surrounding our hillsides, awaiting the Trumpet voice, ‘Gather!’ So, take heart, all you waiting Wheat Stalks. The signs of the Harvest are here.
