Separate Yourselves

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

As God’s nation journeyed through the wilderness, a group of men led by a rebel named Korah, decided to overthrow Moses, God’s chosen leader.  The Lord spoke to Moses… “Tell the congregation to depart from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you become consumed with their sins.” And when the people separated themselves, the ground gave way under the tents of the wicked, swallowing all that pertained to them” (Numbers 16).

This truth applies to our day as well. The global attempt to destroy Christian nations, families, and freedoms, is a well-crafted rebellion against God… “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against His Messiah” (Psalm 2:2).  Each day is a gift of time, as the Lord calls people to flee the wrath to come… “Come out from among them and separate yourselves, says the Lord, and don’t touch unclean things (sins), and I will receive you, and will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18).

To separate ourselves from the sins of the world, is to take sides with God against evil.  There’s a great urgency in the Gospel call because the return of Christ will be so swift that those flirting with the world will not have time to separate themselves… “Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts have become overcharged (Lit: heavy and drowsy through overindulgences) in partying, drunkenness, and the cares of this life, so that Day comes upon you unawares. For as a snare it shall come upon all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36).

The hour is late, the return of Christ is imminent, and God’s wrath will fall upon this evil world. May we be “instantly ready” to share the Way of Escape in Christ, with urgency.
