This international distress signal was first used on ships in peril. The triple plume of smoke was seen from miles away, letting them know that help was needed now. As years progressed it was sent by Morse code, a simple SOS, letting everyone know that lives were in grave danger and their existence was threatened and they needed an urgent way out. All these years later, our cell phones have an SOS alert system, letting the authorities know your exact location on the grid and help will be sent.
The Bible tells us of a time when our hearts will cry out for help. Not just us, but the Spirit of God within us will also call for the Lord to come and rescue us. “The Spirit and the bride say, come!” It’s an SOS alert. Our hearts are tired of being strangers and sojourners in this hostile land. And the Spirit is grieved with the abundance of evil, the hatred for Truth, and a continual lust for corruption.
Like David, we find ourselves pleading the same prayer… “In my distress, I called unto the Lord, and He answered me.” (Psalm 120:1). We must be careful to not grow angry in waiting… “I sent up my prayer for help and He didn’t answer!” Dear ones, He always hears and answers, but sometimes it’s not as fast as we want. “Continue in prayer,” is our instruction… “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Keep sending out “help” signals. Jesus hears and WILL sustain us until our true Deliverance comes. We are told who wins this battle… “Who can win this battle (or overcome this evil?), the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 John 5:5)
Make no mistake, Jesus is coming. He has promised to “Come a second time, not to bear sin (He’s already been to the cross), but to SAVE us.” May we be like the sailors that were struggling at sea, with the ship taking on water… they continued to send up the SOS signals, over and over… but they didn’t sit there wringing their hands waiting to die, rather, they pulled out a couple of instruments and decided to sing songs of Home. Home was their destiny, their heart’s cry, and their joy. May we, too, keep it front and center as we continue to pray for help. He hears, and He’s coming.
