We use to all sing this old hymn for decades, written by Henry Bennett who lived from 1813-1868. Think of all that has transpired since then! The Christian today has to deal with a whole host of gnawings that chip away at our satisfaction. The internet age has now made the whole world our judge and critic, and our once simple lives are now continually contrasted to the seemingly fabulous lives of others. Daily, we struggle to find true rest because we carry the weight of the world’s problems on our weary shoulders. Satan has done a great work at distracting us from what really satisfies - Him.
Satisfied with Thee, Lord Jesus, I am blessed!
Peace which passes understanding
On Thy breast; no more doubting,
No more trembling, no more trembling,
O, what rest!
Listening for Thy shout Lord Jesus,
In the air;
When Thy saints shall rise with joy
To meet Thee there, O what gladness!
No more sadness, no more sadness
Sin nor care.
May we, “Lift our eyes unto the hills from where our Help comes from,” and delight in Him and all that He is to us. Let the roaring waves of this world slip away into silence as we read His words… “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
How truly blessed we are to find our satisfaction in Him!
