When God rescued the people out of Egypt, he told Moses to tell the people to celebrate their deliverance on a regular basis… “that the generation to come might know them, the children which would be born, who should arise and declare them to their children: that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments” (Psalm 78:6,7).
God gave Israel beautiful feast days to remember His power… Passover, Pentecost, Tabernacles, and added others like Purim – when He rescued the Jews of the Persian Empire from the genocidal hatred of Haman. He even had it written… “These days should be remembered, and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their offspring” (Esther 9:28).
Why such a request? To give hope to the next generations that see the rise of Pharaohs, Hamans, Hitlers, and their ilk again. This is why Jesus told us to remember the Cross and resurrection often - it reminds forgetful people of His love, triumph over evil, and promise to return.
The Bible says, “Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us: therefore, let us celebrate the Feast” (1 Corinthians 5:8). We drink the wine and eat the unleavened bread honoring His request… “Do this in remembrance of Me.” The Bible explains, “For as often as you eat this bread, and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). Doesn’t that thrill your heart? Jesus lives! And He’s seated on the Throne of Heaven, ready to return.
Sunday is Purim, but it’s also Palm Sunday for Believers. Do you see the connection? Celebrate our Savior!
