Promises From God

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

We all know the pain of an earthly broken promise, but God’s promises are unbreakable and eternal; we can build our lives on them.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). We can be made right with our Holy God: it’s a promise.

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you WILL be saved” (Acts 16:31). This belief is more than a mental acceptance that there is “a God”, but that we have acknowledged that Jesus is God, come in the flesh, to die for our sins, and we accept His punishment in our place. This is a promise of Salvation.

He promises us a new body as these temporary ones wear out…  “He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like His own, using the same power with which He will bring everything under His control” (Philippians 3:21).

He has promised two things… that He has “Gone to prepare a place for us,” and that He is going to “Come again to receive us unto Himself, that where He is, we may be also” (John 14:3). For every Believer, this is the promise of our forever Home.

And a promise to crown all promises - “For the ages to come (literally tens of thousands of years), He will show us His exceeding riches of His grace, in His kindness towards us, in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:7).

Friends, these are promises we can count on and live for. In Christ, our lives are only getting started. What a wonderful thought!
