“O satisfy us early (at dawn) with your mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, and the years in which we have seen evil” (Psalm 90:14,15).
Psalm 90 was written by Moses during their years in the wilderness. Think of the magnitude of this great prayer. Having been rescued from years of slavery in Egypt, the Lord delivered them only to be slowed down for another 40 years by the unbelief of the rebels among them. But rather than bitterness, Moses asks for joy each day, and for an eternal perspective that anticipates glories to come at the end of the journey. That’s faith.
This prayer speaks to our days also. While the world around us decays and fills with injustice, may we be satisfied early each day by our time in God’s Word, and fix our hearts on the promised joys which lie ahead.
Think of it… one day soon we will see Jesus face to face; visit non-stop in that great reunion of loved ones who have gone before us; meet heroes of the faith; attend an awards ceremony; feast at a glorious table where Christ Himself serves the food; walk with angels on a crystal sea and streets of purest gold, translucent and soft; marvel at animals that speak; sing and enjoy inexpressible music; wonder at neon plants and flowers; eat from the tree of life; rest in the most beautiful garden ever known; then walk with Jesus into ages to come.
Isn’t it wonderful to know since the Bible has accurately predicted 6000 years of history, we can confidently look ahead to the promises to come. May these wilderness days only prepare our hearts for glory.
