Revelation tells us of seven angels. We read of them first as leaders of the seven churches… “The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches” (Revelation 1:20).
The word angel means “messenger” and is a Hebrew word used for priests in the Temple and synagogues… “For the priests lips should keep knowledge, and people should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger (lit: angel) of the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 2:7). It is in this sense, that these pastors of Revelation are called “angels.”
Each Pastor received a special message from God to give to his church in Revelation. And we do not read of these men again Revelation 7:2 – “And I saw THE seven angels which stood before, and to them were given seven trumpets.” These faithful pastors who trumpeted out the truth God gave them each week, are now called upon to blow trumpets during the Great Tribulation, and each trumpet matches their faithfulness in their church prior to the Tribulation, making a thrilling connection to our service here and now, just as Jesus promised…
“The first servant came to the Lord, saying, “Your pound (mina) has gained ten minas. And He said to him, ‘Well done good servant: because you have been faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’ The second servant came, saying, ‘Lord, your pound has gained five pounds. And He said likewise to him, ‘You also shall be over five cities.’” (Luke 19:16-19).
Every Believer is a ‘messenger’ in the sense that we have the message of Life in Christ to share. May it encourage and excite you that what God has asked you to do here, is equipping you for service in His Kingdom.
