Prepare Him Room

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

There was no room for Jesus in the inn, nor was there room for Him in Herod’s plans, but there WAS a tender acceptance for Him in the heart of Mary, Joseph, Elisabeth and Zechariah, the shepherds, and the wise men. This same question is posed to each and every one of us still today. Do we have room for Him to permanently dwell within our hearts?

What a contrast for The One whose glory FILLS the whole earth, to find no room…  “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is FULL of His glory” (Isaiah 6:3). The very stars that directed the shepherds and wise men to His birth, were made by Him, named by Him, and known by Him. Yet, He hid His glory in order that we may know Him as the Son of man.

“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they will call Him Immanuel, (meaning God with us)” (Matthew 1:23). God wants to dwell within our hearts, not as one of many gods, but as our First Love. May we place Him on the throne of our hearts, commune with Him throughout the day and night, and cherish the intimacy of what it is to have “Christ in us, the hope of glory!”

May we never take it for granted! Christ came to dwell within our hearts. This is the life-changing Present of His presence!

“Room for Jesus, King of glory!

Hasten now His word obey;

Swing the heart’s door widely open,

Bid Him enter while you may.”
