The world’s opinion that God is aloof, distant, and cold to our sufferings, could not be further from the truth. Psalm 139 tells us He cares so deeply for each of us that He watched us form in the womb; knew and loved us before anyone else; and knows… “When I sit down and stand up; You understand my far-off thoughts; You surround my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.”
Many people are surprised that to learn that God also records our life-stories and collects our tears… “You count my wanderings: O put my tears into your bottle: are they not in Your Book?” (Psalm 56:8). How often have we wept alone, only to hear the Lord say to us through His Word, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears, I will help you.”
The truth is, it is mankind who is aloof, distant, and cold to the sufferings of a loving God. Thankfully, we have a Book that holds the record of His tears for us. He came to earth specifically to die on the Cross, to provide Himself the Cure for sin and death, the root cause of all our tears.
The “bottle” into which Jesus collects our tears refers most often to a wineskin. Only He can turn water into wine. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning,” is His promise to all who receive Him as Savior. He promises a near day when He shall… “Wipe away all tears from our eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
God’s plans for us go far beyond this life - which means the Best is yet to come. He endured the Cross to graft us to Himself through salvation, to keep us for evermore. Hallelujah.
