“Let us therefore come boldly to the Throne of Grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
Who can approach boldly to a Throne Room at any time? These days it seems like everyone is on a wait list of some sort – to see the doctor, the banker, the village council, a lawyer, or a judge.
Yet as Believers in Christ, we can come boldly to the most important Throne Room in the universe – 24/7 - knowing we’re loved, we’re welcome, all-power is His, and we have a permanent standing in grace. No concern is too small, and no problem is too large. We need only come to “find grace to help in time of need.”
The word for “help” is a nautical word that means “a rope or chain for frapping a ship.” Frapping was a method of wrapping ropes around the hull of the ship to hold it together so it wouldn’t break apart in fierce storms. What a great word to describe God’s marvelous strength as we pray. He wraps us in His strength of grace and mercy, holding us together, until our storm is over.
It was a transformed sailor who penned the words of Amazing Grace… “through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me Home.”
Prayer is often the last resort in our trials, when it should hold first place. The Bible reminds us that sometimes “You have not because you’ve asked not.” And as we leave the Throne Room of prayer, what peace fills our hearts to know we’ve asked our Heavenly Father to intervene, and we’ve signed our petition “In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
He will answer.
