“As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave to the disciples, and said, ‘Take, eat: this is My body.’ And He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink ye all of it; for this is My blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” – (Matthew 26:26-28)
Notice Jesus’ words… “Take, eat… drink all of it.” No one else can taste, eat, and be nourished for me. No one else can drink, swallow, and be refreshed for me. This must be my personal response to who Christ is and what He has done for me. By “eating” of the Living Bread, I am personally receiving the truth that He died as MY sinless Substitute. By “drinking” of the wine of His sacrificial love, I am receiving the truth that His blood paid MY ransom.
Jesus vowed to save eternally all who receive Him. His blood saves us, and His resurrection power keeps us. It’s the guarantee of His “Everlasting Covenant.” The Apostles understood the impact of His vows on their lives and so must we… “We had so much trouble in Asia, we were pressed out of measure, beyond strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life! But we had this verdict regarding death IN OURSELVES, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death (Hell) and continues to deliver, in Whom we trust that He will yet deliver us” – (2 Corinthians 1:8-10).
May these Passover days bring a renewed wonder at the power and love toward us in Christ. May we gladly lift our cups and exclaim: “Your vows are upon ME, O God!” And drink.
