Our Savior

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

God has three attributes not found in any human. He is All-Knowing (omniscient); He is All-Powerful (omnipotent); and He is All-Present, meaning Eternal and Everywhere-At-Once (omnipresent). Jesus displayed all three of these as He walked here on earth.

When a man named Nathaniel was introduced to Jesus for the first time, Jesus said, “When you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathaniel knew only God could have seen him there. And that’s all it took for Nathaniel to believe in Jesus. Jesus continued to display His knowledge of hearts, minds, and things which only God could know.

Jesus displayed His power over sickness, disease, death, and the devil. His ability to do miracles proved He was indeed the “Son of God.” A son is one who descends from the DNA of another. If a Grizzly bear has a son, it’s a grizzly bear. The same is true with Jesus. He descended to us from Heaven as “The Eternal God revealed in human form.” And Jesus made it clear to His mockers… “Unless you believe that I AM (a name of God alone), you will die in your sins” (John 8:24).

The Bible tells us that Jesus was “from everlasting,” and that He had no beginning or ending. One of His many names is “Eternal Life” because that’s what He IS. Only Jesus could claim, “No one has ascended up to Heaven, except He that came down from Heaven, even the Son of Man which is in Heaven” (John 3:13). Jesus prayed before He died… “Father, glorify Me with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (John 17:5).

What a Savior we have in Jesus! He knows all about us and loves us. He is our ‘Savior’ because His power cannot fail or be overcome. And since He lives forever, He alone can truly offer everlasting life. Hallelujah! No wonder Jesus said, “Be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
