Our Restorer

David and his 600 exiled men prepared for war. They left their families and headed off on the three-day journey to the place the armies were gathering. They wanted to fight for the Lord. But the Lord turned David back. And when David and his men returned, they found everything gone – their wives and children, cattle and sheep, homes, possessions, everything! – stolen by the enemy. Even their city was burned to the ground. They lost everything trying to follow the Lord and they were grief-stricken.

“But David encouraged himself in the Lord” and prayed. The Lord said, “Pursue! For you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all”. So David and his men went and… “recovered all that had been carried away. There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither bounty; David recovered everything.” – (1 Samuel 29).

This is a great comfort. What have you lost while following Christ? Peter said to Jesus, “We have left everything to follow You. And Jesus said, ‘Most certainly I say to you: There is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My sake and the Gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands with persecutions: and in the world to come eternal life.” – (Mark 10:29,30).

At the Cross, Jesus “restored that which I did not take away.” By conquering death, He alone is the Restorer of life to those who trust Him; a Restorer of paths to dwell in; a Restorer of our souls on a daily basis; and the Restorer of the Kingdom to Israel.

We’re in the middle of the story where the thief has come to “steal, kill, and destroy.” But our Greater David will arrive right on time. And we’re going to see it.

Hallelujah!
