“I love You, O Lord, my Strength. The Lord is my Pillar (the Strength holding us up) and my Fortress (place of protection); my Deliverer, my God, my Rock, in whom I take refuge, my Shield (defender), and the horn (power) of my Salvation, my High Tower (refuge and safety). I will call on the Lord who is worthy to be praised, and I will be saved from my enemies.” (Psalm 18:1-3)
Do you feel like you’re watching society crumble? The strong pillars that once held up our nation are being torpedoed… a sound education, a law-respecting government, a strong family unit, a trustworthy medical field… who can we trust anymore? This exact question is posed to us in Scripture… “If the foundations (of a godly society) are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
The Psalmist, David, cried to the Lord, feeling as though everything was falling apart around him… “When I cried out, ‘My footing is slipping!’ Your steadfast love O Lord held me up” (Psalm 94:18). It was the solid rock of God’s love and promises that gave him the strength and courage he needed to endure.
Our crumbling culture demands that we, too, throw ourselves on God for His strength and mercy. Once again, David encourages us to find our hope in the only One who is forever unfailing… “We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. Let Your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in You ALONE.” (Psalm 33:20-22)
May we plant our feet firmly on Christ and His promises. The storms will continue to ravage the pillars of society, but our Foundation is sure and unbreakable. “Be patient and STAND FIRM, because the Lord’s coming is near.” (James 5:8)
Maranatha!
