Our Keeper

Writer: Lisa CatafordLisa Cataford

It’s easy to think the Lord is seated on the throne of Heaven resting. But we would be wrong. Although the work of salvation is finished, His missionary zeal and His “keeping” work continues 24/7. In fact, Jesus employs all of Heaven in His care for us. The Bible gives us a glimpse into His work each day…

“The Mighty God, even the LORD, has spoken, and calls to the earth from the rising of the sun unto its going down: ‘Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined (shown Himself)!’”– (Psalm 50:1,2). From dawn to dusk, Jesus calls to the earth through His preachers, that He has walked among humanity, loved them with a perfect, everlasting love at the Cross, risen in power, and is returning to judge the world. It is Jesus Himself, orchestrating every missionary effort across the globe today.

This call of the Lord comes with an urgency, pressed upon the unsaved by the Spirit of God… “As the Holy Spirit says: Today if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts… behold, NOW is the time of God’s favor; behold, NOW is the day of salvation!”

Jesus also has another work through His Spirit: sustaining His own people… “It is because of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness!” Not only is He our “arm (strength) every morning,” but He is also the Source of continual “goodness” that comes to us throughout each day and night.

Then there are the myriads of angels, sent forth from His Throne at the speed of lightning, to aid God’s people all over the earth in ways unseen to our eyes. Only eternity will reveal all the times the Lord defended, saved, and provided for His people through His unseen servants.

We can awaken each morning to hear all the bad news, but may the Lord lift our eyes above it to rest in the knowledge that God’s work will soon triumph over it all – and we are kept by His power.
