Our Great Counselor

A counselor is one who gives advice to others based on their knowledge or expertise in a certain area of life. It’s a huge responsibility to claim to have expert knowledge in any area, especially in the spiritual realm. Jesus told His disciples, “Don’t be called Rabbi: for there is only one Teacher, Christ, and you are all brothers. And call no one on earth Father, for there is only one, your Father which is in Heaven. Neither be called Master: for there is only one Master, even Christ.” – (Matthew 23:8-10).

The mark of these last days is growing deception. Jesus said many false teachers would arise, but He left us His Word and said, “Let no one deceive you!” The only way deception is possible is by neglecting or rejecting the Truth already supplied to us by the very mouth of God… “Where no counsel is (from God), the people fall. But in the Great Counselor there is safety” – (Proverbs 11:14, Hebrew Bible).

The name ‘Counselor’ is also translated “Comforter” and “Legal Advisor”. It is “One called alongside to help” as we journey through life. God has promised that in every step, we would have His guidance and presence… “That your trust may be in the Lord I have made known these things to you today – even to you. Have I not written to you excellent things in counsels and knowledge? It is so that I might make you know the certainty of the words of truth.”

Praise God His Word endures “to all generations.” We can walk safely and surely.
