Our Great Comforter

“And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you Another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever… and the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance whatever I have said to you… He shall testify of Me… He will glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine and shall show it to you” (John 14:16,26, 15:26, 16:7,14).

The Holy Spirit’s role in our lives is to exalt Christ. He brings Christ’s words to our minds, uses the Scriptures to teach us more of Christ, more of His power and love, and more of His victories to come, to continually comfort and strengthen us in this evil world.

The very name “Comforter” means “One called alongside to help, intercede, advocate for, and console.”  The beauty of the Holy Spirit indwelling those who have received Christ as Savior from sin, is that He knows our thoughts. When our thoughts are divided, distressing, or doubtful, He jumps into action… “In the multitude of my (distressing) thoughts within me, Your comforts delight my soul” (Psalm 94:19).

It is the Spirit’s presence in our lives that makes us overcomers. He is the “Spirit of Truth” giving us conviction and discernment from the smorgasbord of lies and false teaching. He is the “Spirit of holiness,” transforming us into Christlikeness, and giving us strength to withstand the pressures to conform to the world. He is the “Spirit of Hope” helping us overflow with confidence in all that is yet to come in Christ’s Kingdom, despite the lawlessness that abounds today.

“Thank You, O my Father,

For giving us Your Son,

And leaving Your Spirit till

The work on earth is done.”

Hallelujah!
