Our Coming Savior

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

God has a sense of humor in His justice. It is displayed by bringing the rightful king of the Jews into the world right under the nose of the wicked usurper. Then God used the Wise Men to innocently announce the fact to the tyrant. It delights our imagination to think how many sleepless nights he had!

The Lord did the same thing with Moses, drawing him out of the waters of death to be raised right under Pharaoh’s nose in the same palace – the deliverer under the nose of the slavedriver.

Jesus’ birth was the beginning of the end for evil rulers. Mary knew this was a display of His strength as she rejoiced with these words … “His mercy is on those who reverence Him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their seats of power and exalted those of low degree. He has filled the hungry (for justice) with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty.” – (Luke 1:50-53)

Years ago, while on the mission field, my mother held a baby leopard. He was cute and cuddly. But someone smiled knowingly and said, “But wait till he grows up.” Who fears a baby in a manger? No one. But Jesus returns in power and great glory to crush the head of the god of this world in a roar of justice that will shake the globe. The Cub returns as King, and we’re about to see it.

Rejoice! we have a Savior, Christ the LORD!
