Today is the “Fast of the Fourth Month” recalling the day when Moses came down the mountain to find people worshiping the golden calf. In only forty days, Moses was disowned and considered lost, and many returned to Egypt in their hearts - forgetting the miracles, provisions, the cloud of His presence by day, and the fire by night. So this day was made a Fast Day that future generations might remember.
The Bible reminds us also… “Now all these things happened to them for examples, and are written to warn us, upon whom the ends of the age are come… wherefore, flee from idolatry” (1 Corinthians 10:11). But unlike Moses’ day, Jesus has not left us alone, He has given us His Spirit, The Comforter, to dwell with us and in us… “He shall bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you… and He will show you things to come. He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine and shall show it to you” (John 14-16).
While we wait for Christ’s return, the Holy Spirit helps us remember His promises and Presence by “pouring the love of God into our hearts” (Romans 5:5). He glorifies Christ to our hearts that we might love Him more each day, long for His appearing, and focus our hearts on eternal realities. What a Gift we have been given!
This day does not need to be a Fast Day for the child of God, but a Feast Day, of remembering how deeply we are loved by His Cross, sealed by His Spirit, and sanctified by His Word – for glories to come.
Can you hear His footsteps?
