Long before God sent the flood of Noah’s day, He gave the people 120 years notice. Long before God sent Nebuchadnezzar, and judgment began at the House of God, He gave hundreds of years of warning through His prophets. He forewarned His prophets… “Whether they will listen, or whether they harden their hearts, they shall know that there has been a prophet among them” (Ezekiel 2:5).
How deeply the heart of God longs for people to listen to His warnings against the consequences of sin. Seven times over He wrote through Jeremiah… “I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you would not listen… I sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them, but you have not listened.” You can hear the tears in His pleadings, and He said Himself… “My heart is broken over their love for sin.”
The Apostles of the New Testament preached the love of God for the world by sending Christ to save us. Yet they always added a warning at the end of such good news… “Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every person…” (Colossians 1:27).
We are at a point in history, 2000 years after Christ sent the invitation of salvation into all the world, where there is no going back. God’s Word has foretold us that when “pride has budded, and violence has risen up into a tribe of wickedness, the time has come, the Day (of judgment) draws near” (Ezekiel 710-12).
If you and I have one daily goal for these last moments, make it to share the Gospel of Christ with someone each day. Of all the spiritual armor you wear today – don’t leave the house without your Gospel shoes on. You carry the cure for death and sin’s damage, and the message of Life and eternal Safety – and there’s no time to lose.
