“It is because of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness! The Lord is my portion, says my soul; therefore, I will hope in Him. The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that a person should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.” – (Lamentations 3:22-26)
Jeremiah wrote these words after Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had conquered Jerusalem and taken the people into captivity. Yet even before they had been taken away, God had already foretold their return after 70 years… “After seventy years are accomplished at Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, plans of peace, and not of evil, to give a certain future.” – (Jeremiah 29:10,11)
And during those seventy years, the Lord promised His care in exile… “Although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little Sanctuary in the countries where they come” – (Ezekiel 11:16).
It was this same deep love for us that caused Him to go the Cross, forgive our sins, and bestow eternal good to all who receive Him. How great is His love! Today, as we await His return, we know our future is secure… “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the child of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet I will never forget you. Behold, I have engraved you upon the palms of My hands…” – (Isaiah 49:15,16).
What a great way to start the day. Maranatha.
