“And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying: This month (Nisan) shall be to you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you” – (Exodus 12:1)
When the Lord rescued Israel from Egypt, He gave them a new calendar – a calendar that begin with a new life of freedom, a rescue, and a new birth as a nation. The first celebration on that calendar would be the Passover, for the rescue took place because the Lamb was slain, and the blood applied to the doorposts of their houses – exempting them from the judgment of death which fell across the land of Egypt. Today is Israel's New Year's day.
In the same way, when we trust in Christ as our Passover Lamb and apply His blood to our hearts, we are “born again,” and a new calendar begins for us that is marked by freedom from sin, a rescue from Satan, death, and hell, and a new birth into the family of God…
“Who has delivered us from the authority of darkness, and has translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son (Colossians 1:13) … You have been called into freedom, but do not use this liberty for an occasion to the flesh (selfish ambitions), but by love serve one another (Galatians 5:13) … you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and belonging to the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19).
The events on God’s calendar begin with Christ’s victory over death and celebrate His power and goodness all year long. We are not to fear any enemy, but to live lives of “overcoming faith” as we walk in freedom, with the Spirit of Christ in our hearts, in confidence of His love, anticipating victories to come.
