The love of God is intimate, tender, and far reaching! “As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He knows our frame and remembers that we are dust” (Psalm 103:13, 14).
King David knew his needs far exceeded what an army could supply, or wealth could protect, but his life was dependent on one thing - the mercy of God… “Have mercy on me, Lord, for I call to You all day long… You Lord are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to You… When I am in distress I call to You, because You answer me. For You are great and perform marvelous deeds; You alone are God… Turn to me and have mercy on me: Show Your strength on behalf of Your servant…” (Psalm 86).
As we each enter this new year, we are deeply aware of our great need for God’s mercy upon us. We cannot rely on our governments to protect us, or our medical systems to meet our needs, BUT, we have the unending mercy from God that goes before us and prepares a way, where there seems to be no way. He provides miraculously for us, in ways we couldn’t have imagined. We are not alone!
May we echo David’s prayer - “Oh Lord, please show us Your mercy,” and then watch expectantly for His tender touch. He is faithful! He is aware of our needs before we utter them. And He is enough.
