Loving His Appearing

There’s something about the coming Fall Feasts - Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Tabernacles - that excites our hearts. Anticipation of these wonderful days was intended to keep us looking ahead, energizing us, captivating our hearts and minds with the joys to come.

Think of the watchers in the Bible. Zacharias in the Temple, praying for Messiah to come – when suddenly Gabriel stands in the room with the news. Mary, anticipating the prophecies of Daniel, knowing His appearing was soon – suddenly, she’s part of the plan. The Shepherds, caring for the Temple sheep in the fields, considering the great conjunction that had been in the sky, and hoping beyond hope – when suddenly the sky bursts into radiant light. Or there’s Simeon, not wanting to leave this earth until his eyes had seen Him whose name is “Salvation.” Then one day, there He is. And dear aged Anna, watching and praying daily for Him, then one glorious day she holds Him in her arms. All of them knew the Cross would come before the Glory. But here we are in time… a time all other generations before us wished they could see.

Christmas was Tevet 9,10/Dec 24,25. It was Jesus turning a Fast Day into a Feast Day as He promised. Passover was Jesus, the Lamb of God, dying for the sins of the world. Resurrection was Firstfruits, Jesus, the Firstborn from the dead, the Sheaf guaranteeing a harvest to come. And we know the Fall feasts have a fulfilment that will be thrilling.

Where there is love, there is longing. Where there is longing, there is excited anticipation. Where there is anticipation, there is preparation. And one day soon, there will be realization. “Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord, when He comes shall find watching” (Luke 12:37).
