Love That Conquers All

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

“The moon and stars they wept;

The morning sun was dead

The Savior of the world was fallen

His body on the cross

His blood poured out for us

The weight of every curse upon Him

One final breath He gave

As Heaven looked away

The Son of God was laid in darkness

A battle in the grave

The war on death was waged

The power of hell FOREVER broken!”

(Forever-Kari Jobe)

Jesus had been crucified… but not yet risen… The deafening silence of His absence was shattering their hearts in pieces. Was Hope lost? Was their faith in vain? What was happening now? Tears flowed…

Before Jesus died, He had told them, “You do not understand what I am doing now, but later you will understand” (John 13:7). What they didn’t understand was that He was waging a war against sin, death, hell, and the grave, because we couldn’t fight it on our own. It took One that is completely Holy to conquer such great evil.

His great love was building a road for us to Heaven; it was arresting the power of sin that snared people into hell, forever; it was changing the grave from a permanent place of hopelessness, to a gateway to Heaven. This war may have seemed silent from earth’s position, but in the spiritual realm, the devil raged, and the demons thrashed in anger! Their power had been anesthetized! The Pearly Gate, that guarded Heaven’s Holy City, was now open! And the Word of God could be heard bidding ALL - “The Spirit and the bride say, Come! And let him who hears, say, Come! And let him who thirsts, Come! Whoever desires, let him take of the Water of Life freely.” (Revelation 22:17)

Dear friends, this day after His crucifixion, represents the greatest war ever waged, but His love conquered ALL! There is NOTHING, absolutely nothing, that can separate us from the mighty love of God.

Praise His Holy Name!
