Look Up And Have Hope

Devotional by Cheryl Hall Laos

“He gives power to the faint; and to those that have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men will utterly fall: but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:29-31)

This Scripture was given to the Children of Israel in captivity in Babylon. They felt like they’d never get to go home. They were sure that hardships would continue to be their story… hope had faded into despair. They felt no prospect of deliverance; their bleak reality was causing many, even the young men (who are usually bursting with hope for the future), to fall into the slump of hopelessness.

If only they had remembered that God promised a renewal of hope and strength to those that keep their hope in Him, not in the world governments. God was still in control and His great plans for their future hadn’t been altered by evil at all.

In our day, this same hesitation to feel hope is felt. The world scene is filled with “war and rumors of wars” (Matthew 24:6), BUT this was foretold. “Lawlessness will abound” (Matthew 24:12) and it is, even being made legal, BUT we were told to watch for this. Most importantly, we were told that, “When you see Israel surrounded by enemies on all sides, you need to LOOK UP for your deliverance is near.” (Luke 21:20)

Bible prophecy is being fulfilled before our very eyes. This is a time for great hope and expectation. May the joy of anticipation fill our hearts. Jesus is coming, dear ones! Look up!
