Let No One Rob You

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

“Beware lest anyone rob you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ” (Colossians 2:8).

The enemies of God’s people are always trying to rob us of our eternal inheritance in Christ. Since God’s Word is our Inheritance Papers, it’s vital to know God’s Word so we can be secure in what we have in Christ… “You are my portion (inheritance), O Lord, and I have said that I would keep (guard from loss) Your words… the cords (ropes for showing inheritance districts) of the wicked have robbed me, but I have not forgotten Your Torah” (Psalm 119:57,61).

Many robbers would tell Israel that they have been set aside and the Church is the new Israel… but the Inheritance Papers say, “If they (Israel) break My statutes, and do not keep My commandments, then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless, My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, nor allow My faithfulness to fail. I will not break My Covenant, nor alter the word that is gone out of My lips” (Psalm 89:30-34).

The same is true for the Church. Many robbers are in the world trying to steal our liberty in Christ and bring us into bondage of legalism, or false standards for proof of salvation. Many would steal our confidence in Christ’s perfect work of salvation, and exchange it for the insecurity of always wondering if salvation can be lost. Many want to steal the comfort that Jesus gave us by the Holy Spirit’s eternal presence in our lives and exchange it for constant fear of Satan overpowering us.

Jesus calls Believers “overcomers, more than conquerors, triumphant, and victorious” because He has overcome the world, and we are joint-heirs together with Him.

Dear Christian, know your Inheritance Papers, and let no one rob you.
