Kings Shall See

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

“… The appearance of His face was so marred, more than any man, and His body more than the sons of men. So shall He sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at Him, for that which had not been told them they shall see. And that which they had not heard they shall consider” (Isaiah 52:13-15).

This passage is a prophecy of the reaction of world rulers when they see Jesus at His return. He will bear the scars of His torture on the Cross, and those in leadership - who have arrogantly dismissed Jesus Christ as a “dead and gone” historical figure - who have mocked His sufferings as meaningless to them - and who have used His name to curse without a second thought – shall suddenly shut their mouths.

Suddenly they will consider His death for them as real. Suddenly they will understand that this Righteous One who didn’t deserve to die, was seeking to save as many as He could – and that includes them. Suddenly, that which they had not heard, or not been willing to hear - that He is alive and returning to judge the world in righteousness - they will consider.

But the Bible also warns world rulers: “Be wise now, therefore, all you kings. Be instructed, all you judges of the earth. Kiss the Son (pledge allegiance to Him), lest He be angry (at your perversion of justice), and you perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled (against evil) in a little while. Blessed are all they who put their trust in Him” (Psalm 2:12).

In Christ’s Kingdom, it won’t be today’s world rulers that will reign with Him, it will be all those who love Him now, and took His side for truth. Take comfort that justice is coming and things are about to change.
