“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which planted… a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance… a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and time of peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)
We are in a season of weeping and war, but we have two promises from God… “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Joy will come because of Jesus’ second promise… “He will swallow up death in victory, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces, and the rebuke of His people shall He take away from off all the earth: for the LORD has spoken it” (Isaiah 25:8).
Jesus announced His first mission as Messiah through the Cross at His home synagogue in Nazareth. He stood up and read the prophecy of Himself from Isaiah 61… “The Spirit of Jehovah Adonai is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor, heal the broken-hearted, proclaim deliverance to the captives, give sight to the blind, set at liberty those who are bruised, and to announce the year of God’s favor (grace).” Jesus stopped there, mid-sentence. At His return He will finish the chapter…
“And to announce the Day of Avenging of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to appoint to those who mourn in Zion beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness… everlasting joy shall be to them… for the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations” (Isaiah 61).
Let’s fix our hearts on the season to come.
