A common sentiment heard lately is that, the world is in so much pain and turmoil that I don’t dare even think about celebrating Christmas. Many are choosing to “sit in solidarity” with the hopeless and hurting, and in essence are participating in their sorrow, rather than bringing them the Hope of all hopes! Jesus! We are better off to do as the angels did the night Jesus was born - BURST into the seemingly impenetrable darkness with the message that has changed history. The angels never asked Herod for permission to bring the Gospel message into his evil domain. They just came with Holy fervor, and Divine delight! “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause GREAT JOY for all the people. Today, in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and ON EARTH PEACE to those on whom His favor rests” (Luke 2:8-14). Friends, may we spread this Good News, that Christ has come. A Savior that still seeks to save those that are lost in their sins and grappling to find any shred of hope and joy to cling to. Yes, our world is a dark place, but He has pierced the darkness and brought us LIFE, PEACE, JOY, and LOVE. “Hark the herald angels sing, glory to the newborn King. Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinner reconciled! Joyful all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies, with th’angelic hosts proclaim, Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
