It is thought that April Fool’s Day dates back to 1582 when the much more accurate Gregorian Calendar was adopted in place of the Julian Calendar. Many people either refused the drastic change, or were unaware of it, and were mocked as “fools” for being out-of-touch with the times.
The Bible defines a fool as one who denies God, when the evidence of His existence, power, and wisdom, is all around us… “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). A sign of the last days is that many are “ever learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.” Since we live in an age called “The Information Age,” with more access to history, education, and facts, than any other time in history, this shows us there is a vital prerequisite to learning – a hunger for truth.
God has given us “wisdom from above” in Christ. The authority of His Word is called “doctrine” and implies far more than human “teaching,” but rather, foundational truths from the Master who knows all things. The word “Master/Rabbi/Teacher,” from which we get the word “doctrine” and “doctor” is used of Jesus over 60 times.
Ever wish you had a Rabbi? You do! The very name is personalized, meaning, “my Teacher.” In Christ alone are hidden “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” and we are encouraged in this atmosphere of deceptions and foolishness to “let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.”
Jesus has come to earth, defeated sin, death, and the father of lies, that we might “know the truth,” “know the times,” “know His will,” and “know a more excellent way.” As Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
