Holy Dignity

Writer's picture: Lisa CatafordLisa Cataford

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

Everything about our Lord and His truth is dignified, holy, and good. Nothing bizarre, weird, or cultish, marked the ministry of Jesus or His disciples.  Yet many once Bible-professing churches are straying from the Scriptures to get caught up in practices found nowhere in Scriptures.

These infiltrations into Christian circles are forms of mockery and God will judge them as evil. His Word is to be the Church’s authority and everything outside of it will be judged so at His return. Jesus warned… “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that does the will of My Father which is in Heaven” (Matthew 7:21).

This ought to drive every person, in every Church, into the Scriptures to see if what they believe and practice is in the will of God. Jesus said, “Many” (not few) will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord! Lord! Have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name cast out demons? And in your name done many wonderful works?”

The life of a true Believer is marked by obedience and love for God’s Will as revealed in His Word. Dignity and honor from Christlikeness fill their lives. Don’t be fooled by bizarre trends and the peer-pressure that comes from false teachers and their hype of power. Flee what is not found in God’s Word; follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness. And fight the good fight of faith by standing for truth (1 Timothy 6:11,12) …

The consequences are eternal.
