For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts (plans) higher than your thoughts (plans)” (Isaiah 55:9)
Whatever our greatest plans are for ourselves, not one of them are as exalted as the plans God has for our lives. Before we come to Christ, our plans are earthly, temporal, and self-centered. We pursue in our own power things which we hope will satisfy and bring purpose and pleasure.
The Lord’s loving voice to us is… “I know the thoughts (plans) I purpose toward you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you an expected (certain and confident) end” (Jeremiah 29:11).
To cleanse us from our old lives and equip us for eternal glory… “We see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every person.” (Hebrews 2:9)
“For such a High Priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens” (Hebrews 7:26). In every way, Jesus lifts us first out of death, then out of the beggarly things of this life to set us among princes, and to make us co-heirs with Him. It’s more than we grasp!
It’s important to ask the Lord, “What would you have me to do?” For only He can open doors we never dreamed, and shut doors we thought were great because we didn’t know that destruction lay behind them. Only in His will is there eternal purpose, cups that overflow with joys untold, peace that passes all understanding, and pleasures for evermore.
May our prayer always be, “Lead me in Your ways, O Lord.”
