His Kingdom Come

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

Isaiah prophesied of One that would come that had the power to hold the weight of full authority upon His shoulders. “Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders...” (Isaiah 9:6)

This word “government” does not imply that He would seek a worldly title, as a mighty earthly ruler, but that He would come and set up a Kingdom that is far greater than an earthly reign could ever be. When Pilate inquired as to what Jesus had done in order that He would be turned over to him, He responded, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now, My Kingdom is from another Place.” (John 18:36)

Friends, you may be a citizen of your birth country, but as a child of God, your citizenship is in Heaven. You are part of the Bride of Christ, which makes you a part of His magnificent Kingdom. If you feel like nothing satisfies here on earth, it’s because you were made for His Kingdom. You are eternal, with purpose that reaches far beyond the shores of time.

If you are wearying of the constant earthly battles, where justice is no where to be found, and lying is now commonplace, just remember that you were made for more - so much more! We long for a Kingdom where Righteousness reigns. How blessed it will be to not have a new corrupt government take power every four years, or the present government sell you out to foreign interests. What a joy it will be to forever feel safe and secure in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus said we will rule and reign with Him in the ages to come. In many ways, this thought puzzles our human minds, but also it resonates deeply within our souls. We KNOW we aren’t made to be satisfied with this temporal squabbling. “We (like Abraham) long for a city, made without hands, whose Builder and Maker is God.”

We remember Jesus’s teaching to His disciples when they asked Him how to pray...  “Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven...”

Dear friends, let us pray fervently for His Kingdom to come. Someday soon, we will be singing His praises face to face! What a joy that will be!

“Joy to the world, the Lord has come! Let earth receive her King.Let every heart, prepare Him room, Let Heaven and nature sing...”

May His Kingdom come.
