His Glorious Throne

“And in mercy shall the Throne be established: and He shall sit upon it in truth in the Tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking justice, and hasting righteousness.” – (Isaiah 16:5)

This beautiful promise was given at a time of war. It’s interesting that in Hebrew, the word for “Throne” is related to the word for “the full-moon festival” of the Feast of Tabernacles… “Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed (full-moon festival), on our closing Feast Day. For this was a statute for Israel, a law of the God of Jacob. This He ordained in Joseph for a testimony…” (Psalm 81:3-5). Jewish history says Joseph was exalted out of the prison house on the Feast of Trumpets, and the Bible says this was a “testimony” for things to come.

So why is the word “throne” related to the word for “full-moon festival”? Because the Throne of Solomon was a Throne of glory, made of ivory (1 Kings 10:18). God gave a promise to David regarding Christ and His reign… “His Seed (Messiah) shall endure forever, and His Throne as the sun before Me. Like the moon it shall be set forever as a faithful witness in the sky. Selah (consider this)” (Psalm 89:35-37).

August 30/31 will see the third (and largest) of four supermoon’s in a row this year. Besides being beautiful, extra large, and a blue moon (the second in one month), for those who know God’s Word, it’s a super-size reminder of Christ’s coming reign in the skies… “Thy Throne, O God, is forever and ever: the scepter of Your Kingdom is a righteous scepter.” (Psalm 45:6)

Yes, there are supermoons every year. But they only serve to remind us of the unfailing promises of God. Soon and very soon.
