An ambassador is a representative from a specific region, who is trained to go into a foreign land with a message of peace, reconciliation, and a promoter of a specific activity… “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God was making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
To be an ambassador requires a strong sense of loyalty to our country of origin. We must be content to feel like strangers and sojourners in the land - it’s not our home and it was never meant to be. The heroes of the faith recognized that they were PART of God’s great plan, not the completion of it… “These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.” (Hebrews 11:13)
But God firmly speaks to us about a problem that has existed since the first ambassadors were sent out… “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love for the Father is not in them.” (1 John 2:15). God’s representatives are forgetting their First Love and falling in love with this world. Instead of bringing the holiness of God into this culture, they are permitting the world to form their thoughts and decisions. The representatives of Christ were intended to share with the world what it is to “Taste and see that the Lord is good,” but instead the flavors of the world have enticed them, the entertainment and food has made them forget their calling. They were sent to warn of a coming judgment on unrighteousness, but they’ve ceased the warnings and clap along to the latest law passed that defiles the most vulnerable.
We need a reset… an awakening… what will it take? The return of Christ will be the greatest wake-up call the world has ever seen. “So you must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him” (Matthew 24:44). But to the faithful ambassador… “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over His household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when He comes. Truly, I tell you, the Master will put him in charge of all He owns.” (vs 45-47)
Loyalty and perseverance to the things of God, will be rewarded. May we be found busy about our Father’s business and faithful to our calling.
