“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those that trust in Him.” – (Nahum 1:7)
This beautiful verse stands out in the little book of Nahum. Nahum means “Comfort” and yet it is a book of God’s judgment. Sandwiched between the descriptions of His coming wrath, are beautiful assurances to those who love Christ of individual safety.
What a great comfort that God sees individual faith in the sea of humanity. Jesus displayed this power of Deity constantly… “And Jesus seeing their faith said to the sick of the palsy, ‘Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.’” To the woman in the crowded streets, who secretly touched the hem of His garment, Jesus saw what no one else could… “Daughter, be of good comfort; your faith has made you whole.” He knows those who trust in Him.
To the unknown servant in Jeremiah’s day, God sent a message of safety when the rest of the city was under siege… “I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but your life shall be a prize to you: because you have put your trust in Me, saith the LORD.”
What a comfort to us during this global siege of evil. He sees you – where you are, what you’re going through - and how you want to honor Him with your faith while awaiting His return. He assures us of His individual care… “You are being kept (guarded in a stronghold) by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5).
Jesus will soon descend from Heaven for His own… “and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore, comfort one another with these words.”
