Isn’t it an amazing thought to think of God delighting in something? To be omniscient, (knowing all things, at all times, simultaneously), and yet still choosing to delight in that which is good and honorable, is a lesson for us all.
What things delight the heart of God? “The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but He delights in the prayers of the upright?” (Proverbs 15:8). Our prayers bring Him such joy! I love the thought that when He hears our voice he beams with delight! “My child, I’m so happy to hear from you!”
He delights in a righteous character, as it reflects His Son. “A false balance and dishonest business practices are extremely offensive to the Lord, but an accurate and fair scale is His delight.” (Proverbs 11:1). This verse, held up against our present day, reveals that God is not untouched by the wickedness, but offended! But those who walk uprightly, who speak truth, and who are honest, are His delight.
“The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” (Psalm 147:11). Try for a minute to see things from God’s viewpoint. In the midst of a lawless and reckless world, with little to no respect for human life or the ways of God, He smiles, and love fills His eyes, as he sees His people gather together to praise Him. His heart swells as He hears them talk of His enduring love and soon return, and the blessed hope that He brings them. This is the joy of His heart! His beloved bride!
What does a loving parent do for their distressed child? They hold them, and face to face they sing to them. The voice, the reassuring eyes, the warm arms cradling them snugly, it all brings peace! “He will take great delight in you…and quiet you with His love. He will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17).
What a joy to be His delight! May this truth fill our hearts with so much joy!
