“As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2). It’s powerful that the Greek word for God’s Word in this verse, is “logical, reasonable.” Just as a newborn craves the nourishing breastmilk of their mother, so new Believers needs the pure, “logical and reasonable” Word of God to grow.
That our God is “logical and reasonable," is proven in history and the pages of the Bible. He invites us to ask, question, seek, knock. He said, “Call unto Me and I will answer you,” and “Come, let us reason together.” And the more we grow by feeding on His Word, the more “logical and reasonable” we become.
Because our world has refused God’s Word, they have become slaves to their feelings and every deceptive ‘wind of doctrine.’ Like a tongue without taste, they have lost the ability to discern, for the mind must have a baseline of Truth from which to reason.
That God calls people to repentance and faith in His Son, is a Cure that begins in the mind. It is a call to “consider” our ways and where we’ll end eternally. It’s a call to “meditate” on His lovingkindness at the Cross, to “change our minds” so that He can change our hearts, and to open our understanding to “great and mighty things (realities) we could not otherwise know” (Jeremiah 33:3).
The only recourse left for those who refuse to reason is judgment. It’s God’s last act to awaken their minds to consider eternity. This is the point of the Great Tribulation. We should rejoice everyday that we have a “logical and reasonable” God, a God of “Truth and Certainty,” who wants us to grow in truth and who promises to save us from “unreasonable and wicked men.”
