“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of Hosts, blessed is the one who trust in You!” (Psalm 84:11,12)
No one on earth could live without the sun. Yet, without earth’s protective magnetic shield, the sun would kill us all. The sun is the perfect distance from the earth for life, and the shield is the perfect distance between us and the sun for protection. We need both sun and shield.
When it comes to enduring hardships as we live to honor Christ, God has promised the same perfect graces. For our trials, He promised… “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” When Jesus spoke these words to the weary Apostle Paul, he responded, “Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
God adds another grace by promising that those who share His sufferings, shall also share His glory… “Rejoice, in that as you have shared in Christ’s sufferings, when His glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:12,13).
When our service for Christ on earth is done, we’ll look back saying, “grace upon grace!” The God-of-all-Grace, who bought our salvation at the Cross, empowers us, shields us with His goodness, supplies every need, and never stops comforting us until He comes again.
“Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who has loved us, and has given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work” (2 Thessalonians 2:16,17).
How blessed we are!
