“The Lord is on my side: I will not fear: what can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6)
How often world rulers have plans for the people that are not God’s plans! Pharaoh, the world super-power at that time, had plans for the offspring of Jacob. He would “deal wisely with them” so they couldn’t multiply and grow stronger. He set taskmasters over them, afflicted them, killed their baby boys, and made their lives bitter with hard bondage… “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew” (Exodus 1). God had other plans that could not be thwarted.
We can peruse the Scriptures and see the same scenario again and again, until we realize it’s a law of God that… “no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17).
As world rulers meet this week to decide how they are going plan the future, we already have God’s Word on what the future holds. So, the Lord instructs us to not walk in fear of them, but to… “Sanctify the Lord of Armies Himself; and let him be your fear and let Him be your dread. And He shall be a Sanctuary for you… hold tightly to the Testimony of God… and wait upon the Lord… and look for Him” (Isaiah 8:11-17).
Because all the promises of God toward us, and the world, are guaranteed by Christ’s resurrection, we are called to be beacons of peace, hope, and confidence in these days. Let them plot… “Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.”
