God Fulfills His Promise

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

This day is the day of Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit was given to Believers in Christ. The disciples were so saddened to see Jesus return to Heaven, but He reminded them… “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Helper will not come to you, but if I go, I will send Him to you.” (John 16:7)

The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of all Christ’s promises to us - the greatest one, is that “He will never leave us or forsake us. “Keep your life free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

How will God always be with us? By sealing us with the Holy Spirit of promise. (Ephesians 1:13). It’s our “engagement ring” that ensures His love, His presence, and His heart are with us, until He returns for us.

In the meantime, He is our Guide through the obstacles of this life (John 16:13); our Helper (John 14:26), our Power to overcome sin and evil (Roman8:13), our Teacher (John 14:26), and our Friend. No one can say to God - “You abandoned me.” We have a Helper… a Companion to walk this life with.

Oh, how difficult life would be without the Spirit of God in us! That still, small voice that comforts us, when nothing else can, is the presence of our Lord. That strength when we are exhausted… it’s “His strength that is made perfect in our weakness.” That peace that “surpasses all understanding” (makes no sense in our present circumstances), is the perfect peace of God that is resident in our hearts.

Praise God, for the gift and ministry of the Holy Spirit, that transforms our earthly bodies into temples of the Holy Spirit. This third person of the Trinity will guide us safely Home, where our faith will give way to sight, and we shall behold Him face to face. Oh, glorious day!
