“Go home to your friends and tell them what great things God has done for you and has had compassion on you” (Mark 5:19).
A testimony is a firsthand account of what God has done for you, in you, and through you. Every Believer has a salvation story to tell, a testimony of changed lives and answered prayers, and a confident faith in God’s Word to impart.
In the Old Testament, when a person was saved or asked for God’s help, they were to “pay their vows in the midst of the congregation” and tell their stories… “I will pay to You my vows, which my lips have uttered, and my mouth has spoken, when I was in trouble… Come and hear, all you that fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul!” (Psalm 66:13-16). It was a great encouragement to other Believers.
Testimonies are also a vital way we overcome the Deceiver's lies and win unbelievers to Christ… “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb (salvation testimony), and by the word of their testimony (Christ’s present power and help); and they loved not their lives unto death (a refusal to be silenced or conform)” (Revelation 12:10,11).
From the moment of salvation, our lives are marked by newness: a new love for Christ, and a new freedom from sin’s power and penalty; a new love for God’s Word and a desire to live it; a new love for the lost in our sphere of influence, and a new desire to win them; new strengths of righteousness, new fruits of character, new answers to prayer.
There’s so many “great things” to share and so many who need to know… “The Lord has done great things for us, of which we are glad!” May the Lord give you an opportunity to share His great love and compassion with someone today.
