Forever Changed

Devotional by Cheryl Hall-Laos

There is a trend these days to be an edgy Christian, to swear, to be crude, to laugh with the world at sin, but the question begs to be asked, “Are you sure you know the Lord as your Savior?” A mental consent that God is real and is even good, isn’t what it means to be saved; even the demons do that and are hell-bound. “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). To be saved is to turn from our former way of life, repent of our sins, and place our entire life in God’s hands. The change should be evident to those around you. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away and all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). There will be a new hunger for the things of God… “As newborn babes, you will desire the pure milk of the Word that you may grow thereby.” (1 Peter 2:2) If we are truly the Lord’s, there will be conviction when we sin. The Spirit of God that lives within us is our internal alarm system that “convicts us of sin,” (John 16:8), but if there is sin, with no conviction, ask yourself if you truly are His. A new creation in Christ will bear fruit. There will be love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, meekness, patience, and a gentle spirit. People will KNOW you are changed. This is a hard topic, but one shared with great love and concern that when we all stand before Jesus, that He will welcome us Home with the kind of embrace that a Father gives His beloved child. There’s nothing more frightening than to have Him say, “Depart from Me, I never knew you.” The Bible says the person responds, “But I called you Lord!” They had a familiarity with Christianity, but didn’t know Christ personally. Make sure today that you are His. There will be repentance, hunger, conviction, and fruit. Don’t “hope” you know Him enough. If He is yours, and you are His, you will be forever changed.
