Over the summer we were able to visit with family members that we don’t see very often. It put a fresh hunger in our hearts for that great Reunion Day when Jesus meets us in the air. On that day, Jesus will bring with Him those who have gone before us… “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.” What an entourage that will be!
We don’t know what day or hour He will return, but we do know that one day will start out like every other day but end very differently. The first thing we’ll hear is a shout that will split the air, and Jeremiah tells us it will “come even to the ends of the earth.” No one will miss it. Added to that mighty shout will be another voice – the voice of the archangel Michael who will stand up to fight for Israel. The Lord told Daniel… “At that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands up for the children of your people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that same time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.” – (Daniel 12:1)
Then a third sound, “and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.” This trumpet blast, like that first meeting with God at Mt. Sinai, will announce to the world that God has arrived on the scene to gather His own. We don’t just vanish. The dead rise first. Every grave will split open, the sea and dust will give up the bodies of those who have died, to burst into glorious new bodies and be reunited with the souls who are already with Jesus. THEN, we who are alive and remain shall be “caught-up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
What a glorious reunion that will be! So as we come to the Feast of Trumpets this coming Sunday eve and Monday, may this coming joy fill you with anticipation, for one day soon, we will be gathering together unto HIM. Beyond all the heartaches, fears, and trials, and even the best of times in this life, awaits that moment when we see Christ face to face. “Wherefore, comfort one another with these words” – (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18).
Maranatha!
