Eyes On Jesus

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

“You have put on the ‘new life,’ which is renewed (made to grow in strength and vigor) in knowledge after the image of Him that created it…” (Colossians 3:10).

There is only one Food for our spiritual growth, and it is seeing Jesus in the Word. He is our Bread from Heaven and His Words strengthen our hearts and give us life. He is our Living Water, bringing refreshment to our souls from this troubled world. He is our Meat, maturing us with teachings that will help us stand strong, and He is our Wine, the Source of our greatest joys.

All He is, is found only through His Word… “As newborn babes, desire the sincere (pure) milk of the Word that you may grow thereby” (2 Peter 2:2). After enjoying the sweet, delightful milk of the Word a while, the desire for meatier truths grows… “strong meat belongs to those who are full grown, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil (teachings)” (Hebrews 5:12).

Only as we grow in the knowledge of Christ, will we grow in our new lives of righteousness… “Put on the new you, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness… put on deep affections in mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering… put on the Lord Jesus Christ.”

The only way to do this is to keep Christ before our eyes… “But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ… grow up to Him in all things, who is our Head, even Christ… walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in all things, being fruitful in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God.”

No matter how dark and difficult the world gets, the Body of Christ is growing into His likeness, preparing for His return. We are in training for reigning as we keep looking to the One we love...

“Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.”
