Enduring Strength

Devotional by Lisa Cataford

While the Democrats promise a ‘peaceful transfer of power,’ I’m not convinced. Every part of their 4-year tenure has been a lie. I don’t expect truth, honor, or amicability from them now. While we wait for the outcome, Psalm 37 gives us five important truths for enduring evil days…

“Trust in the Lord and do good; so shalt you dwell in the land, and in faithfulness you shall be fed.” It may seem long to us, yet in reality, the wicked have a very short life cycle. They may be in power now, yet they have an abrupt end coming. But we can endure in the confidence of eternal life with Christ.

Secondly, we are to, “Delight also in the Lord; and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” We must not let the evils around us rob us of our joy. Our Heavenly Father is the Giver of every “good and perfect gift,” and He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. We can endure like those who have a Treasure no one can take away.

Thirdly, we are to be a praying people: “Commit (roll) your way to the Lord; trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” In a time when all earthly powers seem against us, we can endure like those who know they have daily Help from Heaven.

Fourthly, “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.” Rest means to “be silent.” It’s a silence from fretting, because our souls have been quieted by Christ’s power over the distresses around us. We can endure like those who walk in the victory of His resurrection.

Lastly, we are encouraged to “Wait on the Lord.” This means to keep watching, expectantly and cheerfully, for his return. In a day when people are living in dread, we can endure like those who know The King is coming.

How blessed we are!
