El-Shaddai

“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, ‘I am Almighty God (El-Shaddai); walk before Me and be thou perfect (without blemish).” – Genesis 17:1

God had called Abram out of his idolatrous nation of Chaldea, to come to a land of eternal blessing. Although they were old, childless, and living in tents, God made an everlasting covenant with them by the power of His name: “Almighty God.”

That power was fully displayed at the Cross of Christ. What looked like weakness to the world was Omnipotence entering death to defeat it in our behalf. With our sins forgiven, we can walk before Him “without blemish” in the power of His Holy Spirit, in the assurance of everlasting life. And this is the news Jesus told His disciples to spread to the world… “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go therefore and teach all nations…” – (Matthew 28:18,19).

Today, God extends the same invitation to all who want an Abraham and Sarah experience… “Come out from among them (the idolatrous world), and be separate, says the Lord, and touch not that which is unclean, and I will receive you, and will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” – (2 Corinthians 6:17,18).

This name, “Almighty,” is used nine times in Revelation as Jesus cleans up the mess this world is in. His future praises are already recorded… “Great and marvellous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, King of saints! Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy: for all nations shall come and worship before You, for Your judgments are made manifest.”

I can hardly wait.
